My aunt has been placed in hospice today where she will stay until her lukemia overtakes her. So each of us in the family have been taking turns holding vigils in the room so that my uncle has company and so that my aunt is never alone. She is sleeping most of the time and is no longer speaking coherently but appears to be aware of her surroundings. So I’m wondering if anyone has any suggestions of things I can do to help them. I feel so worthless just standing there, not able to do anything to stop the inevitable death that is hanging in the air. I have all these intentions of doing something, anything to make my aunt’s remaining time more comfortable and to help my uncle cope through the long hours of watching his wife die. But I’m at a loss. It just doesn’t seem to me like anything would be sufficient at a time like this. So I’m open to any ideas…
