Can I cross off this goal? Well- not really, but it is so close and I am so excited. Most of the biggies are now done. I don’t feel so nervous when people come over. In fact now I really want to host a big party (I see a new goal here!) So many friends and family really came together to help the last week. I am so blessed. Honestly I was still painting an hour before the tour.
Two women at my office especially helped. We are talking multiple late nights sanding, staining, scrubbing. Reminds you to put in the effort to help others. (what comes around -goes around) I’ve started thank you notes. I’ve got at least ten to send out. “I am blessed” just can’t say it enough.
Anyway -This goal is is coming along. The fountain didn’t make it for the tour (amazing what you can conceal with stratigically placed ferns) but should be done within a week. I’ll pop on some pics later.

Home Tour is this Sunday—n the home stretch -sort of.
Hope to get all the biggies done by Saturday. There will still be a ton of finalities to do so next push will be Fourth of July.
Planning a big party to set another dealine. Then for the “embellishments” like additional built-ins, pool, outdoor kitchen the deadline will be Arts & Crafts weekend.
I think other folks are more worried about getting everuthing ready by this Sunday than I am. (This is a change) It is crazy right now (still putting in flooring upstairs, still painting walls & trim, all the furniture in the middle of the rooms)but I feel like by tomorrow night it is going to be ready to start putting the furniture back & begin decorating. I’m really excited. This has been such a lingering goal. I have let it affect me way to much. I am going to down a whole bottle of bubbly Sunday night!

Dining Room woodwork all sanded and polyed. Gypsum Boad in the dining room is all patched & sanded with primer paint coat plus one coat -only a light spot sanding and final coat to go. Gypsum patched in the kitchen and family room -still needs final sanding. Trim at living room fireplace and TV alcove sanded and painted with only final coat to go (which I’m working on today as well as sanding and painting all the baseboards) Slow and steady, it is finally coming along.
Getting bids on some of the more complicated interior trim, flashing the windows, and doing the exterior window trim on the second floor. Also getting bids on painting the exterior second floor. I can do the first floor, but I’d love to let someone else get the upper areas.
Got bids back for refinishing the first floor wood floors. Too expensive, I’ll definitely be doing them.
Also got quotes for adding a pool and hot tub to the back yard. Just a matter of prioritizing and deciding if I should get a home equity loan or not. Not sure for now.

Well, My home is to be on the spring home tour. Yes -I am freaking out -there is so much to finish (not to mention decorate) & not so terribly much money to do it with.
I still have not put the tiles up on the family room fireplace but I have ordered the ones I want. They are my big splurge. I wanted them before Christmas but they come from some place in California then to Birmingham then here -6 to 8 weeks so It’ll be towards the end of January.
Big progress in a couple items though -built the stove surround. Just like I wanted with inset arches on the sides and bronze brackets. I love it! Certainly is a boost in confidence. Still have to sand & finish it, but it is in place. Even had it up when everyone came over for Christmas Dinner. Also Pete built wood fireplace surrounds & mantles for the fireplaces in the livingroom & red room (ie pool room/ library/ game room) so stockings could be hung. They need sanding & painting, but look really good. They are temporary (probably for a few years) until I can get stone ones made.
This goal had better really start jamming!

I made a mini-goal to atleast get the ceilings painted and fireplace tiled by the end of June. Well, I haven’t gotten either done yet. There have been outside circumstances (such as death in the family) but I still want to make this goal. I feel like this is the festering puss-filled gash in my life. I know I put to much emphasis on the house yet I can not seem to make progress. It is like I have this mental/physical block. Argggggggg!

I’ve started my list. (about 1/3 of the house documented so far) This is a discouraging one -I just don’t seem to be able to get motivated -even though this is probably the goal that causes me the most daily frustration. Sub-goal: I will atleast tile the keeping room firepace and finish painting/touching up all the ceilings except the living room by the end June. Maybe by putting it down in writing I will actually getit done.

Myhouse has been in a state of construction/renovation for many years now. I am going to methodically list everything that needs to be done with the associated cost and time it needs. Then start item by item -checking each one off as I get it completed.
