decorate my house

The stove surround is now completed.“angels sing in the background!” It looks great. The last coat of poly just went on. Eventually I’ll change out the tops from wood to granite, but for now it is wonderful. This was the biggest sore thumb of the whole kitchen.

I’d like to go ahead and get a new dining room table and set of chairs next. I’ve got a 40% off coupon from world market so I’ll check there later in the week. What I’ve got now is alright for a hand-me-down, but the chairs don’t match (& not in a cool funky way) and the table has a crack the middle that I have to cover up with a runner.

Also, I’m planning on getting a new sofa and rug for the family room. I think I want red leather. The walls are all stained wood to picture rail height so something with a little life would look good. It just has to be tough enough for cats and kids.

I’m really apprehensive about getting everything looking right before the home tour coming up in a few months. So much to do and so little time to do it in!

The Living Room is looking really good. I’ve still got to fix the sheetrock ceiling and eventually add crown moulding. Also I’ve got to work on moulding at the mantle. BUT -Decoratingwise, it is just about done. I addded some accessories, a sofa table, cool vintage green striped chair and a rug for the area behing the sofa looking into the back porch. I’m very happy with how it is going. I still have to move my craft armoire to the study (when it is cleared out) and move in the piano and bookcase. When that is completed this room will be DONE!

I also tablescaped the top of the buffet and dining room table as well as added curtains to the french doors to the rear terrace in the dining room. I put a little side table with flowers in the corner. You could say this room is done too, but I still want two glass front cabinets approximately 3’wide by 4’-6” high to flank the french doors and a new pendant light fixture. The light fixture will take some new wiring so I can wait a bit for that. The new curtains really lighten up the room as it has picture mould height mahogany wainscott all around and while feeling really cozy, it can also be a bit dark.

I would like to furnish and accessorize each room so that they atleast seem livable. I’ve got the basics in 3/4s of the house. I haven’t touched the blue or red rooms. (When rooms are still referred to by thier color not thier function you know there is an issue) This is the fun part. I’ve still got some renovation and punch stuff to do as well. I tend to get overwhelmed and freeze -wanting everything to be perfect (yet unable to spend unlimited amounts of cash)
