Daylight savings will come into effect next Sunday —yet again. Should I give up and accept the fact that I’m a night owl, or should I strive to accomplish being an early bird? I really enjoy the fresh mornings, but it’s been a year with this goal pending, and my current life just does not match it.
A few days ago, I didn’t even make it to the early-bird breakfast special of this Capitol Hill restaurant. Of course, for the Capitol Hill crowd, “early bird” means until 11:30am!!! lol And I wasn’t even close!! ::sigh::

Few things compare to smelling morning air, yet this goal has lingered for ages on my stubborn effort to stretch the late-night hours…
Yet this morning, due to an early appointment, it happened: 6:30 sharp, and I was up and running. I really like waking up early, and I always ask myself why I commit to a late-owl life! The early light is so inspiring, bike riders along the lake, a morning walk with my dog… aaahhh, life’s good in the early hours…

With mother around, it has been ‘easier’ to achieve this goal ;)

Here I am at 4:35am writing entries. The birds are already chirping outside and twilight is now bringing the night to an end.
I’ve made a log of my sleeping times for the past weeks, but I haven’t been successful with the Steve Pavlina’s approach I posted a few weeks ago.
But it’s really been my fault, because I haven’t woken up at the same time in the morning but rather sleep through my alarm clock. Sometimes I turn it off, sometimes I don’t even hear it…
The only fact I know is that I feel much better the days I have gone to bed relatively early and have woken up early at the set time. I need to have more discipline to achieve this goal.

I woke up at 10 this morning instead of 9am :S
I really did not hear the alarm go off. Well, no wonder given the fact that I went to bed at 3:38am last night. Why do I have to keep pushing my sleep limit? I was already sleepy before 2am, but why I kept myself awake for two more hours is beyond me…
Even though I broke the rules of the experiment last night, I’ll be back on to it tonight.

I went to bed at 4:35am (!) last night, and woke up at 9am (my set time). I napped for about 25 minutes in the afternoon, but didn’t really go to sleep, just relaxed.
It’s 1:48am already tonight, and I’m feeling really sleepy, but I decided to post this before I went to bed, so I have a log of my ‘experiment’.

Somewhere in the many ‘sleeping goals’ of 43 Things, someone recommended the article How to Become an Early Riser.
Basically, Steve Pavlina proposes two things:
- Going to bed when —and only when— you’re sleepy
- Get up at the same time everyday no matter how long you slept
He expands on the process and goes further to clarify in a second part.
Consequently, he states, your body will adjust and will demand to go to bed at a decent hour ;)
It really makes a lot of sense, so I’ll give it a try.

The phone rang at 9:06 this morning, so I jumped out of bed to answer it. On the other end, a woman asks me: “Is there a grown-up at home?” LOL!!!
How “tweety” my voice had to be that she thought I was a child???
I need to go to bed earlier and rise earlier, so my voice sounds grown-up ;)
