Got kids packing lunches. Got to be much healthier than the aweful school lunches and chances are they’ll actually eat it.
Got kids packing lunches. Got to be much healthier than the aweful school lunches and chances are they’ll actually eat it.
Our family did GREAT. We ate so well (four kids at home and minimal sweets). Kids are drinking water and milk and liking it. Tomorrow I’ll grocery shop (for the month) and it will be done carefully and well thought out. I feel best about making my husbands lunch every day because we know it’s so much healthier than him eating out every day. Kids hate their school lunches which are costly and they really do taste terrible, I know – I’ve eaten with them before. I spend $120 a month on these awful lunches and the kids are looking forward to packing. It’s easier to eat healthier when you think ahead and take your food with you so youre not grabbing junk on the way.
Everyone is still eating well in my house. I’m not buying soda and kids have discovered orange juice and water. I love it. I’m packing my husbands lunch everyday and he’s loving it. No waste is the greatest!!!!!
I love that it’s tied in with budgeting. I buy no junk. I can’t even think of spending money on it. I’m enjoying cooking more.
Cooking is not something I usually enjoy. I’ve been cooking dinners for ten for years and it’s just letting up in the last year or so. You cannot please that many people so to me it has often felt like a lot of unappreciated work. Now that budgeting is a main focus of my daily life I’ve changed my attitude about cooking. I see it as making an hourly income and knowing exactly what I’m feeding my family. We are all definitely eating better. We are wasting nothing. Any treats we have are being baked from scratch.
I’ve been buying fresh fruit and vegetables sparingly. I won’t buy new until we’ve completely finished what’s in the house. I can’t stand throwing it away. I spend a little more to buy better fruit and vegetables. That’s that I’ll buy something like five gala apples that are beautiful to look at and extremely tasty instead of a bag of some grainy apples on sale. I use to throw out so many rotting apples because no one ate them because they simply weren’t good. Now everything gets eaten. I’m pleased with this. Kids are seeing the fruit as more of a treat.
Our house is trying our best to budget and this makes eating healthier easier to me. Some people believe it’s the other way around but I don’t. I have no junk food in the house and no soda. Kids will drink water or milk which are healthier choices. We overeat less. I can control better what everyone is eating.
Some days we eat healthier than others and I’m okay with that. No cooking today for me, yea!!!! There’s no junk in the house for the kids to get but tonight it will be spahetti Os, carrot sticks. canned fruit. Not the best, not the worst but I’m looking forward about not needing to worry about cooking for everyone that’s usually here.
Hey, it’s one day at a time and I hope my house picks up good habits on the way. Keep junk food out of the house. When you think you want something, drink water because sometimes it’s all you really want.
My household did really good with this yesterday. I’m starting to think about it earlier in the day. I know myself, if I think about it first thing in the morning I do much better for the entire day. I’ve learned that the less junk food I eat the less I craze it and when I do eat it I don’t feel so guilty because I don’t do it that often. I’ve learned that the more water I drink the more I want water as my drink of choice. I note that the less salt I use the less I craze salts. Anyway today I finish what’s in the frig. I really need to check produce because it won’t last much longer. It’s a shame to have to throw away something that your body would have loved. kt
I will lessen the chance of family members eating out (picking up a quick bite). I have a goal that connects to almost every other goal I have and that’s waste nothing. I have two thawed chicken breasts that I will saute so someone can take chicken wraps with them out the door. I have a bunch of overripe bananas that will make nice muffins. I have brown rice and some broccoli left over from dinner that will be cooked together and reserved. I will recheck the frig to see what else is on it’s way out (or just being overlooked and make it into something that can be “grabbed”. By doing this, other goals will be filled like – stop procrastinating and reduce, recycle and reuse, save money. I guess it’s all a matter of figuring out what it is you want and take action – then everything seems to connect.
not only for myself but an entire family. The habits created in my family now are the habits of a lifetime. I regret that I haven’t always been as conscientious. I guess it’s better late than never though. I’ll work tonight so I’ll leave healthy foods available for all the kids. I packed my husbands lunch for him today and I’ll make sure I have stuff ready for him again. For me, the secret to staying consistent at this is to start early in the day. As the day moves on I get tired which makes me lazier therefore my plan is to keep preparing foods earlier in the day.
