Guitar for Dummies and Keys to Success

January is national hobby month and so the library had a nice collection of “how-to” books for various hobbies. I remembered this goal and picked up the “Guitar for Dummies” book. It came with a CD which is nice, because I was able to use it to tune my guitar (though I am not sure how well I did at that…) and to hear how the notes are supposed to sound. I also learned about chords and even how to play one! Slowly but surely I will learn to play the guitar… I think that the key is playing everyday, practice, so that is what I will do!

The music is flowing out of me! It's flowing into a Needle in the Hay!

I have a small guitar (which is good, because my fingers are quite small) and I can read tabs…. I can’t read music though, but I have a good friend who is an excellent musician, she plays piano and clarinet, and can figure out her way on a few other instruments… plus she can read music, so I am hoping that she will help me to learn to read music. Right now I am on hiatus from teaching myself to play guitar, but you know what? I am going to start again right now… well… as soon as I get off the computer :P I can play part of my favourite song “Needle in the Hay” by Elliott Smith, but I want to be able to the sort of guitarist who can sight read and hear a song and know how to play it! :D I picked a challenge of a song for myself, but it makes me happy, because I love Needle in the Hay! I might try some Nirvana songs next, because they are pretty basic, so I’ve heard, to play.
