Today 14 women from my family ranging in age from 21 months to 74 years got together for my aunt’s birthday and walked 5K at the Emerson Hospital 5K Run/Walk for Cancer
Despite pouring rain all night and right up to the 10AM start time, it really only drizzled while we walked. It was great fun to be together and a nice walk followed by ice cream and brunch at Papa Razzi

Walked a mile today with my mom in the 2009 NH Heart Walk. It was held Sunday, May 17, at MerchantsAuto.com Stadium. We arrived at 9:30 and perused the booths, picked up some water, took a pledge to make heart healthy choice in food and exercise and milled around until the walk was supposed to begin at 10.
At 10 they has some speeches so we did not start walking until 10:30. This was a major annoyance for me mostly because I had a bunch of other things to do today and had already made plans with other people based on starting at 10. Isn’t it RUDE when things don’t start on time?
Although it threatened rain all morning, there were only a few sprinkles and I carried an umbrella to insure there would be no downpours (you KNOW if I left it in the car we would have been soaked by the time we returned).
After the walk, there was lunch donated by the Meat House. I had some grilled turkey tips – amazingly moist and flavorful. I also took an apple and a banana for the road.
Next year we are going to try to get a team together.

But not that hard. Today I should be on mile 59 – but I’m not.
Yet.

7 miles down

This might seem insignificant, but a mile a day outside in the winter in NH is not easy, really. I did not go out every day, for instance Monday was crazy and it just didn’t fit, so I did 2 miles on Tuesday. It has actually been very nice to be outside (seriously – even today when it was sleeting as I walked) and I am trying to take time to enjoy it and make it count as exercise.

Mile 1 completed today in the beautiful NH woods. After a late morning brunch and a trip to Burdicks for a dark chocolate hot chocolate (with a shot of espresso) the mile-a-day plan was hatched. A return to the house was followed by a brisk but excellent walk. Wish me luck.
