You know, I have to recommend everyone gets a vocal tutor. Not only do they teach you neat tricks for singing, they can inadvertently sort out so many of your problems without really trying. ;)
A couple of weeks ago I got really upset when I couldn’t do an exercise she was asking – I was over tired and my insecurities and anxieties about performing were coming out. She spoke about how singing comes from the heart, and when you get up to present anything real, personal, genuine for criticism, your heart and it’s emotions go into that. You have to take it for what it is, and own that you feel that way. Not repress it or pretend like it’s not there – life is too short for that!
It was because of what she said that I now have a relationship with my bf, and how I worked out some standing issues with my best friend. I had forgotten what it was to be honest about my heart, and own how I feel – presenting it with the fear of having it rejected or criticized is what makes being human so intricate and multi-faced.
Moral to the story: Improve your singing :p
