Sari Mela –
Saris For Oxfam is a new project started by a group of Asian women in Oxfam, and in partnership with the Ethnic Minority Business Service (EMBS) in Oxford, to raise money for Oxfam’s work. The idea is to collect saleable traditional items such as saris, shalwar kameez, bindis, and bangles, and to sell them at UK festivals over the summer where Oxfam will be campaigning and stewarding. As this is the first year, the focus is on a stall at WOMAD (World of Music and Dance) festival in Reading, Berkshire, on 29-31 July.
Sari Mela is now looking for wider support for the project. We especially welcome help in getting donations of any saleable saris and shalwar kameez, bangles, and bindis, as well as contact from Asian women who might be interested in joining the project. If you are interested, please call the Shop Manager at the Highgate Oxfam shop on 0208 3403888 or Oxfam Diversity Adviser on 01865 313604 or EMBS on 01865 727015.
