I’ve always loved England and always sort of longed to spend more time there. I’ve been there many times, but just for vacations, seeing family, and one summer school program which wasn’t very serious and where I was surrounded by other Americans. I’m a citizen and such an anglophile but my almost-reverence for the place feels a little silly because I’m not at all convinced that I know what it’s really like. So, I think I need to go live there for a while and immerse myself in the culture, live in it as a citizen instead of as a tourist, and deal with real life there instead of just going to get away. Not sure when I can pull this off… it doesn’t feel so easy to pick up and head off to another country, but I’m sure it will only get less easy as I get older. Maybe I need to combine the grad-school-change-of-lifestyle with the moving-to-england-change-of-lifestyle.
