write and illustrate a children's book

I’m working on the text for my book, it’s pretty much done, but I need the “protaganist” to end up with a crappy job.. and I’m having a hard time finding one without being offensive. Using prostitute is actually a problem becuase I’m sure there are some very succsefull prostitutes in the world, not that I want my kids to become them… anyhoe – here’s the problem. I’m at the part in the book where the “good kid” gets to be rich and famous and the “bad kid” turns out to be somtehing else… but I’m at a loss for “WHAT” that is.

I came very close to using “computer programmer” or “lawyer” – but there’s no way I want to make the kids think that is bad… it would be more of a joke…

My first cut at illustrations is planned to be heavily modified digital pictures. We have a piece of software called “Paint” by corel that’s main selling point is making “Photos” look like “Portraits” i.e. look like someone painted them – so I’m gonna try that first. If that doesn’t work, I’ll probably make rough sketches and have my sisters help – they took the whole “ART” thing a lot further than I.

Thanks to everyone who cheered this goal, I have actually BEGUN! Special thanks for two cheers in the past few hours (gypsiewriter and Todd Schoonover), that really kicked me into gear.

I now have an idea, and a first draft of an outline, and it’s MOVING really fast – the muse is with me.

Seeing as this will be my first book, it will probably suck, but I’m setting it up as a possible series where the same characters can do other stuff too…. unless the dog decides to kill the cat eventually. Just kidding, cause it is a kids book after all.
