Stellarium 2 years ago

http://www.stellarium.org/ – a FREE piece of software (runs on almost anything, windows+mac) that does a great job rendering exactly what you see when you look up. My favorite part is how you can turn on the “pictures” of what the constellations were originally thought to look like. (I know, they are really asterisms).

Also: Found this great wikipedia article:

Orion 3 years ago

Saw Orion for the first time this season a few weeks back. I consider it a “winter” contellation becuase it’s really only visible at night in the winter. It always makes me think “SKIING”

Palm Pilot "Planitarium" program 4 years ago

I have a program on my palm called “Planetarium” which does a good job of showign the constillations and also planets and metor showers etc… The best part is it’s backlit. The other best part is I almost always have it with me. A not so totally best part is that it’s a little tricky to use. It’s a compelx program which can actually control those motorized telescopes if you need it too. I’ve always thought a cell phone application would be a good tool for this sort of thing.
