I’ve continued to foster dogs. I finally fell head over heels for an italian greyhound—Vinnie. The first day I had him I swore I’d never adopt him, but now a month later I’ve added him permanently to the family.
Unlike the other foster dogs I really ‘get’ why people want a dog with Vinnie. He’s not perfect, far from it, but I like his crazinesses. I even like his smell!

We still have the beagle ‘Holly’ that I wrote about 5 weeks ago. Meanwhile I’ve been watching and trying some of the ‘dog whisperer’ techniques which have helped her be a lot more confident. Also, unfortunately, we found that she has hip displasia. So we’ll ‘have’ a dog for longer than we expected with this one first foster case as we help her through her surgeries and subsequent rehabilitation.
I’ve been learning a lot from her, but I don’t think we’ll keep her long term. She’s a lovely dog, but not quite right for our home.

I have a temporary dog…a foster dog. We got her Saturday and it is really odd. I feel really worried about doing the wrong things with her. She’s very scared and I’m hoping and praying that we are not making it worse! Luckily she loves her crate and also she’s so quiet and non-threatening that my cats don’t mind having her around at all.
Hopefully she and I will both feel more comfortable soon. If not then I guess I really am not cut out to be a dog owner.
