I went through a long period of a couple weeks where my typing skill plummeted, mostly due to errors (lots of letter reversals). It was getting quite discouraging. Then I started my new job and just wasn’t able to make time to practice the last week. The feelings of discouragement certainly played a role. Well, I just picked it up again today and hit a new high avg. of 64 wpm. That will likely slide some, but it’s still encouraging.
I’ve had this experience before at all sorts of skill sets. I experience a long period of no advancement and get discouraged. I take a break for some time and when I come back I make improvements at a much higher average pace. Am I fooling with my mind into lodging the activity as a novelty again or has my mind made connections during the break or what? The other question is whether there is any way to take advantage of this. Can I schedule regular breaks and make more progress than if I had kept at it steadily? My experience with running says otherwise, but it’s an intriguing notion.

Got a high of 77 wpm on “race” 1018 just a few moments ago. I’ve also held a sustained wpm of 60-62 overall for the last 50 or so. Something to be said for consistency.

I’ve been good about practicing go twice a day lately. I’m usually a little off in the mornings, but I warmed up pretty quick this morning and achieved a new high at Typeracer of 74 wpm and 10 game avg. of 61 wpm. I still think I need to work in other sites and methods to make more rapid progress (as well to work on numbers, symbols, and keypadding).

I’m trying to go to Typeracer twice a day, but usually only make half that. Still put in 11 races a day at least. Last four races were 71 (personal record here!), 62, 68, and 69. Bumped my avg. up from 57 to 59.
Still, not entirely happy w. my rate of progress. It is said that practice doesn’t necessarily make perfect, perfect practice does. So how to increase the efficacy of the training. I think I need to start visiting some of the other sites again just to mix it up a little. I’d train on other keyboards as well, but none available at this time.
That I’m getting 8 hrs a night now helps. Now if I could just improve my diet and get some more fruit and veggies.

My wpm suffered a little during the last few months that I wasn’t able to keep at it, but maybe only by about 3wpm (can’t say for sure as I wasn’t at my best this morning).
One of the things that makes it difficult is the slowness of my computer and lagginess of certain sites. Things will freeze up for a second or two while the clock keeps ticking. Site with a lot of ads or that act as host for another typing service are especially bad.
Still, I’m back at it and expect to start making progress again.

Depending on where I test and the material and the state I’m in and just random fluctuations. I’ve gotten a high of 67 once, but 60 or over is still a 1 in 4 chance at best.
I’ve been working at this (albeit not committing as much time as I should) for several years. A better time commitment should help, but I think I may have some mild apraxia. Not getting enough sleep and not having a proper keyboard at home doesn’t help (hate laptop keyboards). Ah well, no use crying about things. I’ve actually been putting off some practice to write this. Back to the grindstone…
