Monday, Sept. 3rd...

...is the day I move to one of my university’s residences. I chose the fancier one where each suite has two people sharing two bedrooms, a bathroom, and kitchenette. I can cook my own food (as long as it’s microwavable), leave my shampoo and conditioner in the shower, all that stuff. It’ll be like having an apartment but since all my classes will be like, right outside my door, it’s way more convenient to not have to deal with driving or parking or other car stuff.

I’m sad though. I’ve never lived away from home, although I have tried and keep chickening out. This time, I really hope I don’t. I have to take these courses on campus, I need a social life and to be with people my own age. I need to be independent…

If I had my way, my parents could buy a house near the univeristy and I’d still live with them. But my dad works for a farmer an hour out of the city where I’ll be and they can’t afford to move. I’d never expect them to either, just for me (although my mom would love to move back to the city where she grew up). I had a good cry over it today, feeling like “I don’t wanna go,” “I’ll miss my house, my pets, my familiar surroundings.” But I have to keep telling myself what I’ll gain; new friends, new routines based on MY needs and wants, new experiences. I just hate that change is so hard. But I do take comfort in knowing I’m not alone – most of us hate this type of change, but we move on. I will too…I hope…
