When I pass a shop, I try hard to remembe what I need to buy, to save trouble for later.I often walk into the said shop and pick up something or other. I am happy that yesterday I bought a lot of stuff, but it was all necessary, and on my list.I also need to formulate another goal- not feel guilty when I buy something necessary- I often go to one excess to another.

Debit cards-the double edged knives 21 months ago

While going through the same statement, I was horrified to discover thatbank had extracted over rs 800 per transaction fro my account because balance was low.It was extortionist. After haggling for an hour and refusing to buy their arguments, I was given a ‘maybe’ my charges will be reversed(cause I went later than last finacial year they had already closed for.
It was unpleasant, but at least I know a lot more about debit cards now.For me they are dangerous because I buy things on impulse and while not having cash on hand allows me time to reflect, cards eliminate the need, helping me indulge in instant gratification and sometimes I walk out of a store with a bill of about 1000 and lots of things I never planned to buy.(I have decided to stay away from places that hard sell now too)
About the last entry, after stopping my reliance on using the debit card, I managed to save some money so I’ve already made some headway on the savings goal.

To get a grip on my spending 22 months ago

While going through my bank statement for the last month, I found that I had spent almost half of it on things like books, lingerie and clothes – a great dress and a couple of cute hats.As stand alone items, I could justify each purchase, but together it turns out to be too much. No wonder I hardly have savings to show.I’ve also notice that I tend to lose track of money I spend through my debit card. This month i have a simple plan.
A. Stay away from markets as a source of entertainment.I end up buying stuff I never thought of buying till I look at it.
B. Take out the amount I deem necesarry for this month’s expenses and use only cash.
C. Keep a stipulated amount for a days’ expenseeg Rs 500. If I manage keep my daily expenses under this figure,I can add up my savings and buy what I want to.
D. Keep a small bit out of my salary stashed away someplace I wont be tempted to touch it.Whe its enough,I’ll plce it in a fixed deposit.
