Finally free!

I got my braces off a few months ago, and it felt GREAT! I have the retainers I have to wear at night, but that’s so much better than having the metal on my teeth.

Here’s the only thing I don’t like about my teeth now: my front tooth is a different color than the rest of my teeth. I had a root canal in that tooth a long time ago, and it’s really changed in color. I’m working on getting it white so my smile will be what I want it to be.

I’m also thinking of getting gingival contouring, but that’s a whole new can of worms. Something to think about though.

Come on teeth! Straighten up!

I’m so tired of these braces. I’m going to Hawaii this summer with one of my girlfriends, and I want these puppies off before I go!

A revolt is at hand

I’ve had my braces for 16 months now, and have had no major problems. About a month ago, my gums around my bottom teeth started to swell. They haven’t gone down since then. My dentist and orthodontist both said it’s because gum tissue takes longer to adjust to changes than teeth do, so I shouldn’t worry. I followed their advice and got a waterpic to blast my gums, but now the gums around my top teeth are swollen, too!

My mouth is staging a revolt.

Fine tuning

I had my appointment today, and I talked to my orthodontist about my concerns. She said she’s at the part where she has to make small adjustments to make my teeth perfect. And that’s the word she used, too! I’m happy, because I want my teeth to be perfect, too.

And in other news, my gums are trying to stage a revolt. Ouch!

Am I being too picky?

I know I’m not finished yet, but I think my teeth could look so much better than they do. I’ve been a little worried because my orthodontist told me I’m in my last wire. Does that mean that my teeth are as straight as they’re going to get, and she’s just going to work on my bite? If so, I think I’m going to have to talk to her. I’m paying a hell of a lot of money, so I want my teeth to look as good as they can, even if that means not getting my braces off early. Does anyone have any advice?

Finish early

When I first got my braces put on they said I would have them for 24 months. That would put me at a finish date of January of ‘08. At my appointment last week my orthodontist said I should have them off this spring! That’s really early, and I’m really excited. I’m glad I got them but boy will I be happy when they’re off.

Man! These things are expensive!

You know, a normal person would have come to this realization when they got their braces on back in January. Nope, not me. It took me until now. I’m paying for my braces with a tax-saver-benefit account, and since it’s open enrollment time again at work I have to tell them how much to take out for next year. I’m almost half-way paid and I still have another 3 grand to give them. No wonder my orthodontist drives such a nice car…

And the rubber bands that I have to wear? Yeah, I don’t think they’re doing anything other than making me look like a kid.

Once I get these things off, I’m having a caramel apple, corn on the cob, a snickers bar, and everything else I’m not supposed to have.

Ahead of schedule

Hooray! I went to the orthodontist today, and I’m in my last wire, and I got rubber bands. The rubber bands make me feel even more like a junior high kid than I did before, but if I do what they tell me to do, I’ll be finished ahead of schedule. This is a very very good thing. I’ve had these things since January, and I might be done before the end of the next year. That would be a happy day. :)

Fewer teeth...

I now have fewer teeth in my mouth, as I’ve had my wisdom teeth removed. They put me out, and when I came back I guess I was cracking everyone up (although I don’t remember most of it). I told everyone I was in a tetris game.

It hurt for a couple of days afterward, and I didn’t leave my house (or my couch for that matter) for almost 5 days. I admit that I’m a baby, but this one was bad. They had to cut out 2 of them. Ouch! Luckily it’s over and I never have to do it again.

By the time I’m done with this I’ll have a very expensive smile! I’m already in for about 3 grand, and I’m only about half way done. Sheesh.

3rds

I’m getting my 3rd molars out next Wednesday. For those of you not in the know, 3rd molars = wisdom teeth. 2 of mine are impacted so the orthodontist says they have to go. I’m really dreading it, but I figure it had to happen at some point. I’ve been putting it off for 8 years now. Damn.
