grow my own food

I found out just this past weekend that there is a community garden right down the block from our apartment building. I’ve asked to be put on the list should a plot open up, and I have a neighbor that’s agreed to split the plot with me so I don’t have to garden alone.

I’m already dreaming of all the stuff I could grow in it next year if they have a spot available! Tomatoes, cucumbers, green onions, basil, cilantro, chives, lavender… oh my.

Ultimately I want a house with plenty of land to garden, but in the meantime we have an apartment with no land, no balcony, and north-facing windows. So I’ve been researching indoor container gardening and using grow lights. I think I can at least have some herbs in pots, and I want to try a hanging basket of tomatoes, a pot of hot peppers, and a pot of green onions too. I don’t know how successful this will be but it’s worth a shot.
