list three things every day that made me happy

Saturday, November 28

Maybe this time I’ll actually get back into the 43Things swing.

1. Waking up, deciding to stay in bed for a bit and then getting that wonderful, warm sleepy feeling all over again. I didn’t actually go back to sleep, but I did stay in bed in a daze for about an hour. So nice.

2. Decorating the Christmas tree with my mom. (Each year I ask her why we can’t wait a week or two and then put it up, and each year we still end up with a Christmas tree the weekend after Thanksgiving.)

3. Rehashing our current favorite debate with J. It seems like every time we talk now we scrap over who we’d cast in the Dark Tower movies.

Sunday, November 8

1. Wandering around Whole Foods with my brother and then getting him to eat sushi for lunch.

2. A sunny afternoon on the porch listening to Leonard Cohen. I’m still tingly from that show.

3. In just a little bit I’ll be watching The Mighty Boosh. Yeah…

Wednesday, October 14

1. “Nip/Tuck.” Love that show.

2. Homemade sesame chicken and fried rice.

3. Listening to the White Stripes all day long.

Thursday, October 8 through Tuesday, October 13

I’ve been dealing with a really pissy mood for the past week, and there were a few days there that NOTHING made me happy. Basically I was being too much of a mood-swinging little bitch to keep track of my happy things.

1. The obsession with My Body’s A Zombie For You by Dead Man’s Bones continued.

2. Perfecting my apple pie recipe.

3. Hanging out, drinking beer, eating vanilla Oreos and laughing at E’s experience with a super-crazy friend of hers.

4. Finally framing that jigsaw puzzle I finished a while back.

5. Making plans with my aunt for my cousin’s upcoming Twilight-themed 13th (WTF?) birthday party.

And then the big one…

My friend Ben (of the infamous voicemail) called me this morning to offer up a ticket to see…wait for it….wait for it… LEONARD COHEN in Nashville on November 5. I never thought I’d get to see him ‘cause the tickets for this tour were kind of pricey, and then here comes Ben just giving me one. That definitely brought me out of my mini-funk. I’m going to see Leonard Cohen!

Wednesday, October 7

1. Getting some important errands done.

2. Time with my grandfather.

3. It was cool enough outside at night that I was able to wear a hoodie. Oh yeah…

Thursday, October 8

1. A much-longer-than-necessary discussion with J about how we either need to go into the glass-blowing business or find a way to make mega bucks from all the useless music trivia we have stored in our heads.

2. Funny stories about what my little cousins have been up to lately.

3. This video for the song “My Body’s A Zombie For You” by Dead Man’s Bones (which has also been making me happy for days).

Monday, October 5

1. My college buddy T called me. It’s always great to talk to him.

2. Progress on my jigsaw puzzle while watching dumb reality shows on Bravo late at night.

3. Putting in a new pair of contacts. They just feel so CLEAN.

Tuesday, October 6

1. Watching “Steel Magnolias” with my mom. We don’t agree on all that much, but we both LOVE that armadillo cake.

2. Big discussions on which haunted houses we’ll be going to this year.

3. Kids by MGMT. I am obsessed with this song.

Sunday, October 4

1. After getting home really late Saturday night, it felt great to sleep in Sunday morning.

2. Dinner with my mom and brothers.

3. I watched “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” for the first time. Pretty cute. Plus, John Corbett is one of my favorite men. :)

Saturday, October 3

1. It was Homecoming at my alma mater, so of course I had to be at the football game. Football makes me happy – as does a 42-17 win.

2. The new mascots are adorable. The picture is the female (obviously) named Una, which is cute ‘cause I went to UNA. :)

3. Seeing a Turkish dude, E, I used to do various illegal things with and laughing about how we’re both out of the illegal things business these days.

Thursday, October 1

1. Just the fact that it’s finally October makes me happy. It’s probably my favorite month of the whole year. Perfect weather AND Halloween!

2. M calling just to say she missed me.

3. The new Muse album is making me gloriously happy.

Friday, October 2

1. Giving J some advice and having him call me later to say I’d told him to do the right thing.

2. Saturday is homecoming at the university I went to, so I was happy all day just thinking about going to the big game.

3. It was cool enough that I needed to wear a jacket when I went out at night.

Tuesday, September 29

1. Another day of BEAUTIFUL weather. Those days of incessant rain were really getting me down.

2. Running errands with JS.

3. Watching old white people dance at the bar. WHY do they do that? It’s just plain awful to see.

Wednesday, September 30

1. I really, truly love this time of year.

2. Hearing Standing Outside A Broken Phone Booth With Money In My Hand by Primitive Radio Gods. That song was my jam back in the day, and I hadn’t heard it in years.
