Not like the last time and the time before… OK, I am on attempt number… I forget… to write my MA thesis. I first started it in around 1992. My subject is children’s
literature, and my thesis topic at the time was Diana Wynne Jones, my favourite British children’s fantasy novelist. A rather unpleasant and inconvenient divorce got in the way of that attempt, and it took me a decade or so to re-enroll. In the past two years I have changed my mind three times about my thesis topic, and at last have settled on the fairy tale re-tellings (for young adults) written by Donna Jo Napoli. Don’t ask me what the thing is with the triple names! Anyway, I am very much enjoying this topic, and hope to roll it over into a PhD on the same subject—fairy tale re-tellings for teenagers—and the PhD will cover many more writers, not just Napoli.
It’s time I finished my MA and I hope to finish it this year. wish me luck!
