I’m not, actually, but who can forget that fabulous line from The Mummy?
So, who doesn’t want to go to Egypt? My maternal grandfather did, in 1915, on his way to Gallipoli, and we still have the AIF Egyptian cigarette, and the mummy silver charm he sent home—and a photo of him on a camel in front of the Sphinx (which I was chuffed to publish in the magazine I work on this year). As a kid, I wanted to be an archaeologist (again, who didn’t?!). More recently, a sort-of lover from my not-so-misspent youth told me how he’d once floated down the Nile on a faluka and wished I’d been there. Me too.
