Currently I’m in school getting my teaching certificate so that I can teach high school science, and now that I’ve done some of my student teaching, it is so obvious to me how public schools are failing our kids. And it’s like, I could be the best teacher in the world, and I still can’t be the best teacher for each individual kid, because every kid has different needs! There’s just no way to win with public school, which is why I don’t plan on sending my (future) children there (although I do believe it’s a combined decision with both parents and child and homeschooling isn’t for everyone).
I suppose if my future mate is opposed to homeschooling, and we make enough money, I wouldn’t mind putting my kids into a Montessori private school, because I really believe in their philosophy. Otherwise, I think homeschooling is extremely do-able at many different income levels, especially with the support of homeschooling co-ops. I’m willing to make all kinds of sacrifices if necessary to make it work, because it really is that important to me.
And wow! 31 out of 31 people think this is worth doing! That’s pretty good odds right there. :D
