my prejudices sometimes astonish me…
at work, i’ve been trying to help two ladies (both rather butch, if you ask me)
i figure, oh, what a cute couple…hoo-ray massachusetts, land of free love and awesomeness!
today, as they were leaving, the larger of the two ladies started going off about an incident she had a few days ago, when a young man asked her to sign a petition to get gay marriage on the ballot…she proceeded to say
“I mean, I’m at dinna! The nerve! Not to mention I told him I wouldn’t sign it, and he asked me why! Well, I believe it’s totally immoral. I mean, what’s next, my neighboor marrying her cat?? Nothing will progress if gay people get married! What about children?? It’s just immoral.”
Took me quite by surprise. Now, my views on the matter are…well, completely opposite…but rather than argue with an otherwise very nice lady, I simply told her how angry I would be if someone interrupted my dinner to try to pry into my personal beliefs…
i don’t think she was looking for a debate, and i fiercely held my tongue
lesson #8bajillion as to why you should never judge a book by its cover…

when i go onto a pro-ana blog in which someone has posted a picture of a very, VERY obese lady to serve as “thinspiration”...there were something like 50 comments that more or less condemned this “disgusting” and “awful” woman…one girl even went so far as to say that the overly obese woman should stay at home with a gun in her mouth.
i went totally bonkers and told every one of those snobby bitches off…who the fuck are they to judge this woman???? anoerexia and bulimia aren’t fucking things to be celebrated…they aren’t something to start an elitist club over…
of course then again, didn’t i just go and judge them as elitist bitches? so much for my non-judgmentalism…bah.

it’s so easy to judge others, based on what you know. it’s so hard to realize that judging others without knowing them personally, and even judging them then is an incredibly ignorant and prideful thing to do. i tend to be very judgmental towards people that i consider threats to human existence, human evolution, and…republicans in general.
but you’re only who you are cuz you were born where you were at that particular moment and had certain people in your life that just happened to be there at that time. everything is relative in this life. i need to remember this.
