I think it’s really time to get serious about this.
I’d have more money to invest in a better wardrobe if I spent less money on books.
This one’s going on the “or else” list…

I’ve kind of lost track of this one, but as I was trying to figure out what to wear to work today, I was all, goddamn it! GODDAMN IT! I have so many pairs of pants that are just a smidge too short; my shoes are serviceable but frumpy; I don’t really feel like any of my personal style comes through with these clothes.
My only local options are thrifting (my best/funkiest work clothes have come from Goodwill), the Gap (while I like some of their new stuff, I hate going to the mall), Old Navy (glitter glue! VAC [Visible Ass Crack] pants!), and that’s about it. Maybe I should go to CHGO and hit H&M – I’ve heard great things.
After I wrote that, I went to my favorite thrift store with a ten minute limit and found two very serviceable work shirts (one lavender, the other light green, both 3/4 length sleeves, classically cut, one zips and the other buttons), but the big score was a 100% wool blazer, black, lined, fantastic cut, MY SIZE, J Crew, in perfect condition.
Total amount spent: $8.08.
I’ve always liked stylish clothes, but rarely fashion.
It has come to my attention recently that jeans and ratty tee shirts and stained cardigans – staples of my wardrobe for the 5+ years I was out of the workforce – aren’t gonna cut it at my new gig.
I went out and bought some acceptable pants and some (clean) tee shirts; I have plenty of good shoes. However, I’m sorely lacking in the shirt department, the skirt department, the jacket department, and the dress department. I’m a big believer in either Thrifting It or Coughing Up The Tall Dollars, so this should be an adventure.
