I am resolved to cut the cable and shut down the TiVo. The question is when? Will it be this month? I am considering it seriously, but also feeling the internal pressure to allow myself the luxury of my news fixes. I am a true junkie. I watch 2-6 hours per night of news (I’m counting The Daily Show, which is not news but satirical commentary on news. I also wake up every day to the voices of “Mama and the Mooks.” If you know who that is, you’re as big a wonk as I. But that’s morning radio. Doesn’t count.)
Omigod, omigod. Just thinking about cold turkey makes me hyperventilate! :)

Of course, I haven’t done any of these things yet. The next step should be to ditch the TiVo. I’m determined to make that happen this week.
Also, I want to pick up a digital converter box (I’ve got a coupon) and then I can let the cable go, too.

There is no way I’m going cold turkey from tee-vee, cable AND TiVo. I’m going to start by trimming my “season pass” list down to only a very few can’t-live-without’em shows. That’d be The News Hour and The Daily Show and a few others that air once a week. But I’m going to see if I can find a new home for that TiVo starting now.
Right after the election I’m gonna cut my cable service down to Basic.
I’ll probably hang onto my DVD/VCR player for awhile, so I can use it to digitize my old video footage.
