5. Ding Dong by Ellie McKay

A fairly new song for me, but still a new all time favorite. Check her out… Her voice is absolutely amazing. I’m a pianist, and really appreciate music that tends to highlight the melodious sounds of it’s character. She’s quite the amazing artist.

4. Journey to Redham-Squarepusher

This is an amazing song. Electronic in genre, it’s horribly up beat, and one of my favorite driving songs…. Sure to make any foul mood disappear instantly… Not at all a song for everyone, however. Lots of people find his music far too busy. You might be interested to know, that not only does Squarepusher write all of the tunes, but he manufactures each and every sound you hear in the song individually. He’s also a master bassist, and plays all of the bass lines. I’ve seen him live over a dozen times. If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend checking out his music, or a live show. Novice listeners should start out with Big Loda. It’s a little lighter and a bit less intense than Go Plastic, or Ultravisitor.

3. Love will come to you- Indigo Girls

This song is a lot of things. It’s a song that I paint to at night with a bottle of wine…. It’s a song I sing to myself when I feel without hope. It’s a song I will sing to my future children. This song entered my life in the way of a mixed tape from a girl that had been my best friend for years. We were fairly inseparable until the surge of High School hormones hit, and we had a falling out over some stupid boy. This is the one person I had felt I could tell anything to, and felt utterly betrayed by her actions when she started dating him. The story is as old as time. I’ve long since forgiven her, yet our relationship has never been the same. This was the only song that made it even a little bit better…

Guess I wasn’t the best one to ask
Me myself with my face pressed
Up against love’s glass
To see the shiny toy I’ve been hoping for
The one I never could afford
The wide world spins and spits turmoil
And the nations toil for peace
But the paws of fear upon your chest
Only love can soothe that beast
And my words are paper tigers
No match for the predators of pain inside her

I say love will come to you
Hoping just because I spoke the words that they’re true
As if I offered up a crystal ball to look through
Where there’s now one there will be two

I was born under the sign of cancer
(love will come to you)
Like brushing cloth I smooth the wrinkles for an answer
(love will come)
I’m always closing my eyes and wishing I’m fine
(I close my eyes and wish you fine)
Even though I know I’m not this time
(even though I know your not this time)

I say love will come to you
Hoping just because I spoke the words that they’re true
As if I offered up a crystal ball to look through
Where there’s now one there will be two

Dodging your memories a field of knives
Always on the outside looking in on other’s lives

I say love will come to you
Hoping just because I spoke the words that they’re true
As if I offered up a crystal ball to look through
(I have offered up to you)
Where there’s now one there will be two

And I wish her insight to battle love’s blindness
Strength from the milk of human kindness
A safe place for all the pieces that scattered
Learn to pretend there’s more than love that matters

2. Case of You-Joni Mitchell

This song speaks to endless pieces of me… It’s as prevalent in my daily life as it is in many memories… Some songs you can understand on a surface level, and even appreciate as just a tune. Others come rushing in with astounding weight on your very core at the mere mention of them. I’m clearly speaking of the later of the two! :)
It’s wholly loving and nurturing tone soothes and cradles my dreariest of dreadfuls.

32 Flavors-Ani DiFranco....

Wow, is this an old standard…. Must thank Miss Kate for taking me to my first Ani concert, first and foremost…
As for this selection… It has made it’s way on to many a mix, including a few we play at work. It’s lyrics are quite empowering, and I can’t help but feel a little more like me after listening to it’s sweet melody. I know I know, chick track… More to come!

Alright... I'm inspired to jump on the bandwagon..

Sometimes its only in a song where I can make sense of my life, and lyrics can touch us deeply when we least expect emotion.
