Progress 22 months ago

Well, I don’t have very much progress to report. However I am planning (within the next few weeks) to have an isolation period where I will lock myself in a room (much like Harry Crosby) and just read philosophy for a week or so, shunning everything that has to do with society! Althought I have a few ideas for books to get, I should probably post a question on which ones are really worth the read.

So I finished Steppenwolf by Hermann Hesse a couple days ago and now I’m reading ‘Eats, Shoots and Leaves’ to get it off my list of books to read. I think I want to stick to the smaller philosophy reads for now. I think my next one will have to be when I get back to Ottawa at the end of the month cause the only thing on philosophy I have with me here is a large book title ‘Basic Readings in Philosophy’. I think my next choice will be No Exit by Jean-Paul Sartre which was suggested to me by someone on this site I beleive. I am very curious to read ‘Being and Nothingness’ by the same author.

I wonder…. Jean-Paul Sartre is french, and I’m french…. I wonder if his writtings are all originally in french. I think I would much rather read his writtings in its original language rather than a translated version…. This must be possible; right?

Current read 2 years ago

At the moment my current philosophy read is “Steppenwolf” by Hermann Hesse. This book was enthusiastically suggested by a customer I had when working at the bookstore. She also suggested Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse but said I should really read Steppenwolf first. So here I am, reading Steppenwolf, so far it’s quite enjoyable.
