Our company hired a new training officer about 5 weeks ago. 14 months ago

I had my first training session with him on Tuesday and he was awesome. It was fun and engaging. I usually feel tired after an afternoon training/class, but I felt re-energized after this session. I e-mailed the head of HR and cc’ed the president of the company and told them how well he did. The president wrote me back and thanked me for doing that, saying it was very kind of me.

I saw this little car with all of these hilarious lefty bumper stickers all over it. Some of my favorites were “That’s MS liberal, tree-hugging, hippie to you,” “Don’t blame me, I voted for Kerry,” “Hatred is not a family value,” et al. I put a little note on her windshield that said:

I love you bumper stickers! Keep fighting the good fight!:-)

I noticed these work best when I don't plan them. 15 months ago

My husband and I went for a walk downtown yesterday afternoon, and walked by some sort of a fundraising event the Iowa Food Bank was having. I had heard nothing of it, so didn’t have any food to contribute. I approached a couple of the volunteer organizers and asked if I could make a monetary contribution instead, telling them I was just a passerby. They excitedly said, “Well, yes, of course you may! And how kind of you!” That was the idea! :-) I donated the contents of my pockets; $6.50.

at their respective products while grocery shopping again yesterday.

Went to the Iowa Historical Building yesterday and visited, among other things, a display about the Iowa Caucus. There was a spot where you can donate money based on which party you belong to: Republican, Independent, or Democrat. The proceeds actually go to the museum. Stuck in a dollar and left some “Obama 08” buttons on top of the Dems display in hopes they will be picked up and worn by supporters!

a thank you card for babysitting our son a lot this summer.

Today ~ 15 months ago

Hooked my favorite niece up with a few things she needed from the store. We also had a long discussion about her friends (all kids she met through the Gifted & Talented program) and the importance of high GPA/starting high school strong. She was sent to Central Campus last year, in the eighth grade, to take several advanced classes and she really screwed up.

Then when we left the store, there were several stray carts in our parking aisle. We gathered them up and put them in the cart corral with our cart.

Still thinking on more stuff to do, but it seems like it just kind of comes to you when the opportunity arises!

I bought a bag of candy and anonymously left a bowl of it in our employee breakroom and I sent a woman from my diet group a list of all the fat and calories in fair and carnival foods. She is going to spend all day Friday at the state fair and was worried about what she could and couldn’t eat. I still need to go throw a little spare change in that pay phone I always see the homeless checking.

What to do next? What to do next? :-)

I think I will buy flowers for my mother-in-law as she watched my son a lot this summer. And my favorite laundromat attendant (a very smart, kind lady) is putting her business degree to use and moving on to a much better job effective August 24. I think I will get her a card and flowers.

I want to think of some random act of kindness for my kids – a 10 yo boy and 16 yo girl. Any ideas?

So far... 16 months ago

I left coupons I wouldn’t be using on their respective products at the grocery store, and I picked up a handicapped man who, with the aid of a walker, was walking loaded down with about four heavy grocery sacks. When he got in the car and looked at me, he said, “Wow! You are beautiful!” which made my day. I’m trying to think of something to today. I might go get a bag of mints and leave a bowl of mints in the employee restroom at work today. On the way, there’s a pay phone that I always see homeless people checking for loose change. I think I’ll throw some money in there! This is fun!!
