Opera is not for snobs,It’s for everyone, think about the story lines, “can you say disfunctional”.Predictable plots yes but they have to fit all that DRAMA in to a short time span and tell a complete story.
I did my internship with the Minnesota Opera in 1980 paid my rent with tickets and babysitting to the people I rented a room from, she was a Opera Nut and couldn’t afford the tickets with 4 kids and a 5th on the way.She and hubby went. I also cleaned the trustees house that the singers stayed in.man can those guys throw back the beer!
the key to enjoying the opera is to KNOW the story prior to attending. that way even if you don’t understand the words as they are sung( english is hard sometimes too) then you can follow along and take something fun and enriching away at the end.
