Just putting on the back burner for a while...  — 1 week ago

I am still practising at home, and I love the drums :o)

However, I know over the next few weeks/months Im just going to have to prioritise other things above this goal, so I am parking it for a while.

Im marking it as done, as I have learnt a fair amount, and I can bang out a rhythm now, or read the music to carry on teaching myself – but obviously Im going to come back to this so that I can learn to play them like a pro! lol…

So yes, watch this space because this will be reinstated as a goal at some point in the not too distant future…

Second Lesson Down  — 3 months ago

I do enjoy my drum lessons, but find them slightly stressful, as I do with all tasks which Im not good at and I know I need to practice…

However, this week I bought the book which I am working through at my lessons, so I can practice at home. It is getting more complicated now, and trying to get different limbs to do different things at different times is really, really hard… However, it is still fun, and I am enjoying the fact that I can actually use my drum kit at home to create something of a rhythm now! I definitely think taking lessons before the baby arrives was a great idea, and it will make it easier to do an amount of self teaching over the period of time when I wont be able to go to lessons.

However, I need to get some serious practice in now, and I think I have about a week before my next potential lesson (need to organise that again too). So yes, hard work but exciting!

Next lesson booked!  — 3 months ago

Ive booked my second drum lesson :o) Again managed to book it around another meeting which I have happening just up the road from the drum teacher that day.

Had a bit of a practice this morning, hadnt really been given any homework so just went over some of the basic things I remembered from the lesson. I do need to buy myself a book though, and ASK for homework next week :o)

Am much looking forward to being able to play enough of a rhythm to be able to play along to music, but a lot of basics before then I think!

First drum lesson!!!  — 3 months ago

Well, this goal is now well underway :o)

I was at a meeting today which happened to be in the same town as the potential drum teacher I had identified… so I gave him a call to find out is he could squeeze me in for a lesson – and he could!

So Ive had my first official lesson – and started to learn how to hold the sticks, what all the parts of the drum are called, how to read music for drums, and practised some basic rhythms. So Im well pleased at having made a start, and am looking forward to progressing that more…

Being a bit slow  — 3 months ago

Ive watched some of the learn-it-yourself videos, which are good, but not as good as having someone sat at my elbow showing me… So Ive been thinking it would be good to have a few lessons to get me started, and then I might find using the internet stuff a bit easier.

Have done a pile of research for drum tuition in Cambs and have come up with a list, so will start trying to contact those by the end of the week, and at least get started!

One year ago...  — 4 months ago

...I was trying to find an interest which I could invest some time in, and learning to play the drums made the short list as it had always been a dream of mine. However I lacked a drum kit, and didn’t live in a drum friendly abode (I lived in a flat at the time) or have the ££ to buy one.

However, my wonderful fiance bought me a drum kit for Christmas, and so I am keen to put them to good use, and develop an interest, and learn a new skill.

TO start with Im going to use some of the resources on the internet to get going, and then perhaps look into either getting one of those teach yoursel DVD things, or even invest in some proper lessons to get me started.

Obviously it is going to be harder to practice when baby arrives, but my partner and I will be making some very practical plans to enable us to still have some alone time together, and also some own time for ourselves. We both feel this will be an important foundation for a happy and stable family, so I am hopeful I will still have time to finesse my skills even when I am a mummy!

So watch this space for my progress… its been a while getting going because I was just too tired at Christmas to do it, and have been either too busy or too stressed about work to do it since Christmas. However, now it has become an official goal, that should motivate me a bit more :o)

MsMeffie has gotten 2 cheers on this goal.
