The families really enjoyed the evening with Deborah Hopkinson. I had two different people translate the visit into Spanish. I think this may have been the first time Ms. Hopkinson has had a translator. It was a great time. Everyone felt as though they were a part of the evening.
The students had fun doing the different activities prepared for them. The leftover applesauce/cinnamon clay makes the library smell very homey.
Now it is time to begin again. We will begin planning for our next author tomorrow. I have had some great response from a couple of authors – now to find the funding…. What an adventure.

I have been working on this author visit since the beginning of March. I had read many of Ms. Hopkinson’s books and thought they conveyed content in a very humorous way. Apples to Oregon had been selected as a Pat Gallagher Award nominee and then was selected as an Oregon Reads book for Young children.
I had just completed Dr. Seuss Day with the help of a very energetic Senior High School young man. I was reveling in the success of the project. I e-mailed Deborah thinking the worst she can say is no. In less than five minutes I had a reply, she was coming to Henry Hill Elementary and we could afford her. Yahoo!!!
Deborah and I continued emailing back and forth to ensure the event went smoothly.
It was a great success. I have also uploaded some pictures.
I am now working on having another author for next year. How will we pay for the event. I will have a car wash if necessary!!!
