I find I notice so much more when other people curse, too, and it sounds harsher than I used to find it.

noncurse word. I heard the President use it this morning, and I’m adopting it. “I just think that’s bunk.”
I’m really proud of my progress on this. It’s taken some discipline and I’m not 100% there yet, but I feel like it’s been really good for me.
I read a book about verbal abuse recently and it suggested that everyone has to take responsibility for their own verbal environment. I don’t think I’m verbally abusive, but I do use a lot of generalized effity eff effing. But still, who knows who I am offending, even inadvertently, and stopping is a way of being mindful of, responsible for, and in control of my own behavior.
For my office and my house, I got two bowls and some stones (different for each) and every time I curse, I move a stone to the “cursing bowl.” I know some people use a jar and put in money, but I never have cash and wanted to be consistent in using it. So far, the system has really helped me to cut back!
I still need to think of an appropriate fine/punishment for if/when the bowl gets filled. Any suggestions?
