I learned some new repertoire and had the chance to perform it for the public. I’ll probably do it again sometime within in the next year or two.

My program includes:
A smattering of early Italian arias
Earth and Air and Rain by Gerald Finzi
Don Quichotte Songs by Jacques Ibert
Selections from When Pigs Fly by Howard Crabtree
Some old broadway standards to wrap it up
Scratch Winterreise and Songs of Travel. I am going to do “Earth and Air and Rain” by Gerald Finzi instead. I have my pianist lined up. Now I just need to add a couple more song sets and my program will be complete.
I have narrowed it down to two possible core programs. The first is rather ambitious, Schubert’s song cycle “Winterreise”. An alternate program would focus on Ralph Vaughan Williams “Songs of Travel”. I am actually more familiar with the “Songs of Travel” but I feel this would be such a great opportunity to explore “Winterreise” and learn something new. If I do the “Songs of Travel” then I will need to come up with some extra music to flesh out the program. The Vaughan Williams set is only about 1/2 hour long. “Winterreise” is comprised of 24 songs and would stand on its own. Hmmmm…..
I have been booked to give a recital as part of the Great Music series at St. Bartholomew’s church in New York in the 2005-06 season! I am SO excited! Now I have to choose a program and find a pianist to work with.
