I’ve finally decided it’s time to start. The big kids like school too much, but #3 is old enough now to start Kindergarten, and I will homeschool him this year. He is almost 5, and he is reading at a late grade 2/early grade 3 level. He has read 3 Magic Tree House books in the last 2 weeks. Academically, he will be way ahead of the class.
Socially, he has a way to go. He is very independent, and stubborn, preferring to do things his own way – to the point of being aggressive. He also is not the best at playing co-operatively.
I forsee many potential problems with this combinaton, even though he would have a wonderful kindergarten teacher – she is a sweet, grandmotherly woman, and a friend of mine, (who promised to hang up on me if I call her to tell her that I will be homeschooling him.) Therefore, I am going to give homeschooling a try, and see what we can do.
My son thinks homeschooling would be great – although he seems to think that he will be playing lots of computer games.
Wish me luck?
