learn to draw

I’ve taken time off this goal to pursue writing, miniature painting, and exercise, but I’m ready for it again. I got some input from a friend of mine who in my opinion is an amazingly talented artist on my works thus far, and I’m ready to start again.

Drawing is so much fun! I’ve progressed slightly in the past weeks or has it just been days? Behold.
I started playing D&D for the first time ever recently…here’s an elf for ya. Not your conventional pretty boy elf, either.

I’ve decided to spend about an hour a day drawing from now on. I did an RC Cola bottle still life yesterday, and today I did this

Books I’m using to study/practice: The Ultimate Book of Sketching, More How To Draw Manga Vol. 1.
The drawing in the link is just kind of a silly joke…poking fun at my lack of skills. I put a rocket in his shoe and gave him Wolverine claws for shits n’ giggles.
Believe it or not it took a decent amount of time and effort to get the above results. It can get very frustrating if you don’t take your time to get it right and aren’t willing to erase and try again and again. I put forth my effort for today…gonna sleep and try again tomorrow!
My goal is honestly to have a practiced artist look at some of my work and say “wow, that’s really good.” But they have to be honest when they say it.
I was very passionate about drawing as a child and was semi-decent given my age level…I gave it up because for some reason I thought that when you become an adult all of your innate talents, skills, abilities, and/or knowledge becomes augmented, without any effort. Boy was I wrong! Time to pick up where I left off…

Like Fry(from Futurama), I’ve got the stupid fingers. I get all of these zany vivid creative images in my head and all I can do is wish that I could capture them and put them down. When I try it all looks like crap and nowhere near how I imagined. I took drawing in high school but that didn’t help a bit. I think after I finish my novel I’m going to move on to drawing.
