buy my first house

Got a phone # for info on a CHFA loan and signed up for a first-time homebuyer’s course, which will be May 17th. I have to read a whole lot of stuff. Since I got a hair to do this, going to Morocco to find that person in the picture has become my main focus, so I am almost wondering if this house thing will have to wait or what. Then I was talking to a friend from church who has been very successful and who is selling his house and going on a nationwide musical tour, and we were debating about the importance of owning a house at all. It is a lot of responsibility (not that there’s anything wrong with that), but as a Christian, I am only here on earth visiting, and one of my reasons was to gain equity instead of building up someone elses. He said that even if I got a 4 yr mortgage on arounf $104K, that that first 4 years would be nothing but paying interest to the bank- basically ‘renting from a bank’ and that after 3-4 yrs of payments I would hardly be paying down any of the principal. This is something to think about. Maybe it is not wise for a pilgrim to invest so much in such a temporary thing.
