risk getting hurt in a relationship

This was a PostSecret postcard this Sunday. It could have been my secret, except that I never felt it was a secret. I just thought that some people were just not given the secret to coupledom.

It just occurred to me that the other side of this coin is that I will have to risk hurting someone else in a relationship.

Not something I would like doing, but then again I cannot offer guarantees.

Bugger, I never thought I’d have to put this to the test so soon.

I suppose that’s what I get for using a more powerful wording for this goal.

I’m witness to someone else getting hurt in a relationship. It’s not fun. But perhaps it’s better that the relationship existed than not.

If you can’t handle the prospect of ending a relationship in person, you shouldn’t start one in the first place.

I hear people go whoa! when did Niel get a girlfriend? I never did.

This is just a thought experiment. Although of course I’d want a perfect relationship, it probably won’t be. So I’m opening the door to failure, realizing that I while I make mistakes I actually make progress.
