First session of the last day.

Today I only listened one talk, and I talked to one important person, and then it was time to catch the train to the Museum of Science and Industry to meet Lisa.

What I came for.

Today I attended a few speeches and spoke to one or two important people.

I found a manufacturer of a really good heater, small and powerful and insulating.

I picked up another SFC instrumentation rumour that makes thing interesting.

A solid day.

Today I was in a networking session about biofuels. It was interesting to hear about the problems that don’t make it into the papers because they are too difficult.

I spoke to a representative of a company that sells a component I would love to install on my SFC×GC.

Learned about AnIML

Saw lots & lots of lovely machines.

Networking.

Talk about networking! I met the founder of Knauer, the oldest company in HPLC.

Talk-talk.

We had some very interesting talks this afternoon. Some where technical, but there was an award to Alfred Bader, the founder of Aldrich, now Sigma-Alrich. The plenary session was on low-cost diagnostics, with descriptions of paper-based microfluidics systems. Very, very clever.

I'm here.

OK, I’m here, and Pittcon is on. I got here at McCormick Place at about 10 am this morning, and got my conferee badge. I was much later than I had hoped to be, because early this morning there was a fun run, but I badly underestimated the time it would take to get from my hotel to downtown. Thanks to Flirt for the reminder about daylight savings time coming into effect, otherwise I might have been even later. So, no fun run.

I walked from downtown, looking forward to getting some exercise, not minding the cloudy weather. It turned out the cloudy weather was actually rainy weather, and I got a bit wet. Never mind, the walk was lovely, through the museum campus.

Pittcon is huge. As I write the exhibitors are setting up their stalls, acres of them.

From Madrid airport

I’m on my way to Chicago for Pittcon 2009! The only thing bewteen me and Chicago is the Atlantic and half of North America.

A long trip

Right, these are my travel plans:

I will be departing from here on Friday, the 6th of March, to arrive in Chicago on the afternoon of the 7th. I will then attend Pittcon from the 8th to the 13th. This will be at McCormick Place. After that I will go visit Kansas for a few day, and then over to Phoenix for the rest of the week. I’ll be leaving the US for Spain on the 23rd of March, and then I will visit Madrid until the 30th.

I would love to meet any of my 43 Things friends in any of these places. Please let me know if you’d like to.

To visit a friend.

The Madrid (Spain) side-trip is getting attention.

Registered.

Today I registered for PittCon. I’m a student, so I get in cheap.
