OK, I think I’ve achieved this. It’s funny how one can achieve a goal in different way than one thought it would go. I don’t now know hundreds of of more people. But I now know how to have an interesting conversation by speaking plainly and with authority and listening with interest. I’m not shy of asking people’s names or introducing myself.
This did not happen all by itself. It took lots of practice and a dedication to self-acceptance and a number of uncomfortable situations.

I think I am making progress with this goal. I could do with more of my social circle being outside of work, but I can’t say there’s been no progress.

Part of the problem with this goal is that it is difficult to say what a social circle is. I think I now understand what it is: it is all the people that one knows well enough to know what their names are and what they do, and know well engough that one can talk to them when one meets them on the street.
I am happy to say that my social circle has grown a bit.

Since I don’t really don’t have a social circle, it’s going to be bloody hard to expand it, don’t you think?

I’ve come to be on chatting terms with some of the staff at the gym. It’s not much, but it shows it’s possible.

I’m planning to attend a going away function for the new SANAE team this evening. I hope there will be some new people I can meet, and I hope to see some old friends.
