Done for now.  — 2 years ago

It’s difficult to say I’ve stopped, because I might start again at any time! But I’ve learned what it is like to do a thing now, that postponement is not neccesarily procrastination, what it feels like when I start doing something to avoid doing the job, and not to judge myself but to just return to the job.

Pure procrastion  — 2 years ago

I need to get ready to move to the city to take up my studies, but I’m not doing much about it.

Very close now  — 2 years ago

I don’t think I’ve seriously procrastinated for the last three week. Perhaps that is because my time is so full, but perhaps I’m really not procrastinating any longer.

Of a different kind.  — 2 years ago

I have found that somebody that classified procrastinating differently. I’ll have to think about it a bit, but I have found that the common idea of it is not very flexible.

Schedule!  — 2 years ago

A thight schedule is the perfect foil for procrastination. With my boat-building project I’ve found that being solely responsible for progress, procrastination is just not happening. Some things I simply do not have time for, such as keeping my car clean. Or is it possible to make time for maintenance?

Wortel en tak  — 2 years ago

I should have bought some polyester resin today for the boat project, but I didn’t. I had the time, I had the money, I could have done it any day of the week except tomorrow. That’s why why procrastination should be eradicated.

Did it  — 2 years ago

I hated starting, but I did it. In the middle of the day I went to town and bought stuff I need for my project. It wasn’t hard, it wasn’t expensive, but I needed a lot of willpower to get going. I had to paint myself into a corner and prove that I don’t really have anything else urgent to do now, that I’m procrastinating and if I don’t do it now I’ll just have to do it later and delay the project.

I don’t know why it should be so bloody hard.

But yay! It’s done. Shower me with cheers!

Put in motion  — 2 years ago

I find that I procrastinate badly when there is a task that needs getting the car out for local trips. This is compounded by my concern about carbon waste and the fact that short trips are bad for the engine.

I’m going to tackle this by
  1. Getting the car out first thing in the morning, and parking it ready to go.
  2. Making an exhaustive list of things that needs doing, so that I only need to do one trip per day.
Didn't do nothing  — 2 years ago

I’ve now spent two days procrastinating, spending time on things that are not getting me nearer any of my goals. The problem seems to be that there’s nothing big that need to happen real soon.

Of course I’m postponing the small things so that when there is something urgent it can turn into a crisis, which is much easier to handle.

I’m also resting on my laurels after a concluding session with my psychologist on Wednesday.

Getting there by small steps  — 2 years ago

Anticrastination can have a chain effect, just like procrastination.

When I got in the bathroom this morning, I noticed that my beard needed cleaning up. The shower was already running, so I almost put it off until tomorrow, but then I realized that Monday morning is not a good time to do things that require care and time, so I shut down the shower and went to fetch my shaver. Now in a anticrastination mode, I decided to make my bed before I went back to the bathroom. So under the bedclothes on the floor I find some laundry that should go to the bathroom. So I take it with my me, and save myself a trip to the bathroom. I also come back to a neat bed after the shower, and gives me something to write about on 43T!

I know it sounds silly and small, but big habits grow from small ones, both good and bad.
