Some of what I learnt.. 3 years ago

1. Keep your mouth shut. Machs can’t use what you don’t tell em.
2. Practise the art of the blank stare. A bit hard for expressive folks like me, but if that’s too tough, just smile and dismiss their inquiring stares.
3. Avoid them altogether. Machs often exploit those nearest to them. Maintain a respectful distance but indulge in the occasional hi’s and bye’s to avoid all out suspicion.

I think that’s pretty much it.. ;)

Machiavellian types 3 years ago

I have a colleague who admits that he is Machiavellian. He’s not a bad guy, but he can be “sneaky”. I am always unsure of myself whenever we interact at work. At times he’ll be full of praise but he also does a good job of putting me down and making me feel inferior sometimes. He appears to be sweet occasionally and I’d open up to him but then I find that he doesn’t listen when I speak, but eager to offer solutions at the drop of a hat. So, I’m very cautious when I’m around him, which I don’t like to be.. it’s very tiring, especially when we have to spend a lot of time together on projects. I need to figure out how best to handle him; maintain his support while at the same time.. keep him guessing. Not to divulge too much or become too vulnerable. I do like him but his Machiavellian ways worries me sometimes.

Find out if you’re a Machiavellian, I did a test here and my score was 50. You are a low Mach, you reject Machiavelli’s opinions. I thought so..
