...at least it has the potential to when you’ve developed an allergy to it as I have!
It’s been about five years since I discovered that I was “developing” an allergy to chocolate. It was at Christmas, just as I’d completed baking a dozen triple chocolate brownie pies – from scratch – for our friends and neighbors.
I became violently ill after having an affair of sorts with the leftover batter. I thought maybe I’d just overdone it a bit, so I made sure not to actually eat any of the pie for a day or so. But no sooner than I had a sliver did I become ill again.
Over the years I’ve been able to “sneak” a little piece here and there and not have a bad reaction. Unfortunately, I get a little cocky when this happens, and I think, “Oh, I can have just one more…”
Well, I just finished eating a nice, mostly healthy meal for New Year’s dinner. And I thought, “Ohhh…I think I’ll have a tiny little truffle. What can it hurt?”
My stomach was NOT having it! In fact, it wasn’t real fond of having – or keeping – ANYTHING!
A totally unpleasant situation ensued, but it taught me a very valuable lesson: Don’t mess with chocolate – at least, not if you’re allergic to it!
