I haven’t consumed meat or eggs in 16 days! I also didn’t have any dairy for the first 10 days or so because I was just going to jump right into veganism, but I broke down when my grandmother got cheese pizza. I never drink milk though, as I have long been a convert to soy milk, and I also get coconut milk yogurt when I’m craving it. Cheese is the hardest thing to eliminate, by far! I’m working on it though. I bought some Daiya and used it on a salad, but it just wasn’t the same. In fact, it was kind of gross! And it’s hella expensive.
I’ve been cooking more and trying various vegetarian and vegan recipes I’ve found online. I really just feel better since I’ve stopped eating meat. I mean, I obviously feel better inside because I no longer feel the guilt I had for eating helpless, mistreated animals, but my actual body feels better as well. And, also, I am SHOCKED by how much clearer my skin is!!! I mean, I have still gotten hormonal breakouts around my chin/jaw area, but the overall clarity of my skin in the last week or so has amazed me, and I really attribute it to eliminating meat and most of the dairy from my diet.
All in all, this is one of the best decisions I’ve made and I intend to stick with it. After watching documentaries like Food, Inc. and Earthlings, I can’t bring myself to contribute to that cruelty any longer. It was the video “If Slaughterhouses Had Glass Walls…” that first made me realize that the nicely packaged meat I bought from the grocery store didn’t come from happy little animals frolicking on a farm somewhere who were slaughtered quickly and painlessly. Now that I know the reality, I just can’t go back.
