so i now work where midwives sometimes are, and that’s a nice step up. i also get to be near laboring women, but i am as of yet, nowhere near practicing. since i settled on the cnm life, there are years more to come. this job thing has been way educational though. i know how the system works from the inside even if i don’t agree with it or understand the why of it.

is a new reason to bother watching these birth shows on cable. it’s based in a birth center in florida run by a midwife (cpm even) who frequently does waterbirth. in two back to back episodes, i saw there was no ‘omg the walls of the birth canal won’t hold! they’re going to collapse in on the baby! we have to do something now!”
just lots of good hard work being done by moms in labor who eventually got their healthy babies out.
go figure.
or are those people on those baby shows actually cruel/stupid? this is what i mean. step 1: give mother some sort of contraction ‘enhancer’. step 2: freak out when baby says ‘fuck these ‘enhanced’ contractions and starts stressing. step 3: say oh no the baby is stressing AND something’s wrong with your ‘blank’ (insert uterus, cervix, hair, etc). we absolutely have to give you a cesarean. rinse and repeat.
