to cross this off my list.
Although I bet I’ll end up watching lots of rubbish over Christmas so I’ve decided to see how it goes for a while longer.
I’m not watching much TV any more. I still watch certain programmes I like but there aren’t too many of those. I used to just channel surf or have it on in the background but I’ve stopped doing that – it wasn’t hard at all, just a question of paying attention to what I was doing.
I’ve also decided to get rid of the TV in my bedroom – I used to watch TV to help me fall asleep or wake up and I’ve stopped that too.
Unfortunately I can’t say I’ve used the time wisely to complete all my other goals! :-)

Yesterday I was really disciplined about this. I didn’t turn on the TV when I woke up (which I usually do out of habit). I later turned it on to watch particular programmes and a film. And I got lots done during the day.
But today I seem to have a different mindset altogether. Yesterday I really enjoyed the peace and quiet; today I seem to want the distraction. And it’s not that I want it on for “company” or background noise – I’m really in the mood for watching something and am feeling a very mildly disgruntled that there’s nothing good on!
I know I’d prefer that all days were like yesterday so I’m going to keep trying. Rome wasn’t built in a day!

I’ve realised that most of the time the TV is on, I’m not really watching it. It’s just “background”. So I’ve started turning it off when I notice or putting on music instead. I’m not against TV per se – but Desperate Housewives has finished for the moment and I’m not sure there’s much else I really want to watch, movies aside. So if pay more attention to my viewing habits I might be able to get somewhere with this goal.
