Update... 2 years ago

Well, we’re still not finished, lol.

But we wanted to get things moving with getting the nursery finished, so this week we’ve installed a bay window, gotten all but one wall dry-walled, and picked out the paint color. Of course, this is upstairs stuff, lol. But oh well. We also now have a nice roof over our side entry (which is the one we use the most) that we hadn’t planned on doing, but I’m so glad we did. No more standing in the rain or snow while we try to unlock the door :D Oh, and I’m not sure where I left off writing here, but we also have a nice set of ‘kitty steps’ for the cats in the basement that go up to their favorite window…they love that :)

Still need to get cabinets and carpet…

Almost there! 3 years ago

For the first side, that is, lol. But Most of the things that still need to be done are really minor. Last week we started working on the walls of the family room (the other side of the basement!) Woohoo! So it’s coming along, slowly but surely:) It’s gonna be so nice when it’s finally completely finished:D

We Got It! But only after... 3 years ago

my husband went in and made quite a pain out of himself.

Last Wednesday, hubby made it a special point to call them and remind them to call the distributor and make sure our tile was on the truck. “Yes sir!”

Thursday came—no tile.

Needless to say, I was a bit aggrivated, and finally thought enough is enough. So I grumped at my hubby. And that did the trick;)

That afternoon he went to the tile store and stayed there until they made some calls. They promised us that our tile would be here Monday—special delivery by some guy who works there. He was taking the tile home and delivering it himself Monday morning. So yesterday afternoon, part of our tile finally arrived.

They told us that the rest of our tile would be here either Tuesday or Wednesday. It’s 4:00 Tuesday, and we haven’t got a call yet. If it’s not here tomorrow, I guess we’ll have to go back to the store again…ugh.

The only good thing is that they sold us the tile at 1/2 price.

Success Floor Covering, LLC seems to be anything but successful, and we definitely won’t be ordering our kitchen and upstairs bathroom tile from them when we get ready to re-do those rooms!

Still waiting on the tile... 3 years ago

Ok, so this week they call us at 4 in the afternoon. They ask my hubby if he’s having a good day. He says, “well, that depends on what you have to tell me.” And the guy on the phone says, “well then, you’re not having a good day, are you.”

This time the excuse was that there was a mix up in the order at the distributer. So once again they said it will be here next week. We’ll see. I’m thinking that probably the tile we ordered the second time around is going to be here before this stuff gets here, ugh! (the 7th will be 1 month we’ve been waiting…)

Some good news, though! We’ve got most of the trim paint finished (I would’ve said all, but we decided to trim one more piece around the vent for the air exchanger) and the bedroom paint is drying as I type! It looks so good in there! Now the only thing left in the bedroom is to paint the inside of the closet, put the rod in there to hang up clothes, and install the carpet! Hooray!!!!!!!!!

Oh where, is the tile?? 3 years ago

Wall tile. It really shouldn’t be this difficult. We searched and searched (and searched some more) until we finally settled on a color that was ‘close enough’ to what we were really looking for. Turns out it’s actually floor tile, but it can still be used on the wall.

Thankfully, we also found a smoother textured version that would be used inside the tub and shower at Lowes of all places—the other we had to order from a shop here in town.

When we placed the order, they told us that if we had been there 45 minutes sooner it would have went in and been on the truck, here, the next day. The way it was, we would have to wait until the following Thursday before it would be here.

So we waited. Thursday came. They were going to call us when it arrived so we could go and pick it up. Hubby called to find out what time to be expecting it. Between noon and 3. 3 came and went. No call. When we called, they said that it wasn’t on the truck when it came, but it would be there the following day. Next day came, and they called and said that the truck had never came in the day before (???) and that some of the edge strips were back-ordered so we could expect our tile to come in on one of the following two Thursdays. One down…we’ll see what happens next Thursday.

In the meantime, we decided to go and get the other tile from Lowes, and it is now up and looking quite nicely:) I can’t wait to see it all finished!

Ceiling tiles part 2... 3 years ago

Well, they’ve been up for awhile now, BUT

When the tiles were being put up in the new bedroom, my dad got most of the way finished and then quit for the end of the day. He went home, and not 20 minutes after he left, I started to hear a few little clinking sounds, like when a nail or screw drops on concrete. I started to walk down the steps to see what was going on, and before I made it to the bottom…CRASH!!!

I ran into the bedroom, only to look up and see our cat Rufus hanging on for dear life INSIDE THE CEILING, lol! We still aren’t sure how he got up in there because there was only a tiny opening along the edge, and some unsturdy folding chairs (folded up) and leaning against the wall (which weren’t knocked over, yet the cat was in the ceiling, lol.)

Thankfully he only knocked down one row of the tiles (although many of them were broken and couldn’t be put back up.) Silly cat!

Ceiling tiles 3 years ago

are going up! Just in the half of the basement we’re working on, but still, ‘all I ever wanted was the ceiling tile to be put back up!’ (When we first bought our house, hubby took down some tiles here and there to run all of his crazy wires, and I’ve been saying since then that I just want the ceiling put back up…:)

Picked out 3 years ago

the paint color for the entryway/hallway. Have to wait for them to finish sanding the walls, then we need to get the paint.

We have walls! 3 years ago

I mean, walls that are up so that I can’t squeeze through the boards anymore! L And I don’t even know what they did down there today…guess I’ll have to go and check it out here in a bit:)

Things are moving along quite nicely! 3 years ago

Bathroom lights, fans, heaters (including the heater that heats the floor tiles!) are all in and working:) And the pantry walls are being built as I type…!!!
