my favorite types of goals are those that I can tick off countdown-style, so I’m going to pump up this “thing” with one of those. I hereby commit to doing 40 days of yoga in honor of spring and renewal and also of my entree into teaching full-time. I know that good teachers are those with strong personal practices and that’s what I want to be/do. Taking a class or doing yoga at home, even if it’s just the 20 minute back therapy DVD, count. teaching does not count because that time is for the students. my “practice” has to be something that I am doing for me.

shortly after joining my neighborhood gym, I took two different (yoga) classes there and was thoroughly unimpressed. it took a fair amount of convincing to keep trying (they offer classes every day of the week) but it was worth the mental effort. I’ve found not one, but three classes that I really enjoy and want to go to on a weekly basis. tuesday and thursday there are 5:15 classes that catch me before I get home and ensconced. sunday morning there is a relaxing (but rigorous) 10am class that gives me plenty of time to wake up but not too much. I’ve hit them all for two weeks straight.
I’m trained as a yoga instructor, have tons of videos, mp3s and books and am fully capable of structuring (or not structuring) a regular yoga routine for myself. there’s just something different about doing yoga with a group and I miss that. two apartments and one boyfriend ago, I took 3 classes a week. i’ll be happy if I can find one I like that’s convenient for me and get back in the habit.
