Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

Morning Song in Washington, D.C. is doing 41 things including…

compile a list of simple wisdom for life

12 cheers

Morning Song has written 11 entries about this goal

List 11 - Happiness

A good laugh can make you happy for ten minutes.

A good daily routine of adequate rest, exercise, nutrition, meaningful work, social interactions can keep you happy for a day.

The best way to eternal happiness is to be obedient to God in every moment.

List 10 - on accomplishing dreams

Everyone can dream. It’s totally free and requires no special effort.

If you want a dream realized, you have to pay a price. The price is usually a combination of purpose, discipline, and hard work.

Remember, whenever you gain something in life, you will inevitably lose something else. Whenever you lose something in life, something else will come in to fill the vacuum sooner or later. So, it is in your advantage to be consciously aware of what is being displaced and what is filling the void.

List 9 - Dating

You don’t have to limit yourself to date only guys who can be Mr. Right. It’s fun to date people who are very different from you as long as they are safe people. Date to learn, date to have fun, date to have meaningful conversations.

Before you start dating, make sure that you have a meaningful life first. Never date to fill loneliness, or to feel attractive. Build yourself a life that you are happy with and become the person that you are happy with first. Then your dating experience will be fun.

Set clear boundaries before you start. Communicate them to your dates. If he does not respect your boundaries, do not proceed. It’s important that you date someone that respects you for safety.

List 8 - finance

Track all income and spending

Invest for retirement as early as possible. There is no such thing as investing too early in life.

Prayerfully and humbly ask God for advice in this area if you feel that you don’t know enough.

List 7 - Marriage

A marriage is essentially a life long marathon. It can only be built by two unselfish people. If either one of them is greedy for some kind of gain, the union marathon will dissolve in the long tough run.

Youth, beauty, charm will eventually fade into menopause, wrinkles, osteoporosis. Successful career, big income, or business will face unemployment, cash flow difficulties, and loss. In the end, both partners will face separation because they depart from this life.

It’s no wonder God has been telling me all along that the best life for peace and joy is a single life. If a couple is chosen for marriage, the right attitude for the couple to adopt is that they are there to serve God’s purpose.

Marriage is a life long sacrifice. Anyone going into it wishing to gain something will face disappointment. The person that accepts it as a duty and treats it as an assignment from God will end up fulfilling the marriage’s purpose.

List 6 - Parenting

When God gives me a child, that child’s life is her own. That’s God’s gift to her. I have no control over it. I can decide on what kind of relationship to build with my baby. That’s God’s gift to the parents.

List 5 - when something causes you to worry

Write down exactly what’s bothering you and what needs to happen to put you at ease. Make a plan. Take actions. Your worries will diminish. Actions melt away worries.

Remember, no matter how bad a situation is, there is always at least one right thing to do. Persistently do what’s right and what’s good for you in all situations, your worries will go away one by one.

List 4 - on gains and losses

Acquiring something in life inevitably causes something else to be pushed out.

Losing something in life leads to something new coming in. Universe likes to fill vacuums.

List 3 - change

When I change myself, I change the world around me.

It’s the one with the power to change herself that can ultimately create her destiny.

List 2 - Career advice to myself

Maintain a balanced life.
Take good care of your health.
Build relationships of respect, understand, trust, and loyalty.

Keep on doing what you enjoy to do.
Take every opportunity to learn what interests you.

When life deals you discouraging situations, when you are feeling down and in the dumps, keep on doing what you know that’s good and right for you.

The right career isn’t so much about acquiring what you do not have, or to become someone that you are not. Building the right career is about giving up pursuits that are blocking you, so that the natural talents God has given you can be put into the best use.
