I think every job will have something wrong with it. Instead of spending a lot of my energy on finding that dream job, I decided to focus on building good skills.

Thank God for the job frustrations 6 months ago

Looking back at the last ten years of my career, I had to say I need to be thankful for the frustrations I experienced on the job. If weren’t for those difficulties, I would never have moved on. If everything were perfect, I would still be stuck at the same job I was in ten years ago.

I think the minor difficulties I experience on the job are just God’s way of nudging me that I need to move to where he thinks that’s the best.

applying the search skills 6 months ago

I hate job searches. It’s so much work.

Yet in life, I have been able to find the dentist I like, the voice teacher I like, the condo I like to live in, the dresses I like. Hey, if I can get over the dread, and apply the same searching skill to job hunting, I think I will eventually end up with the job I like.

A start 7 months ago

It’s one frustrating day commuting to work today. The city changed half of the free parking streets to residents only parking. I had to circle around the blocks for nearly 30 minutes before finding a parking spot. It wasn’t free, with a two hour limit.

Yes, I had to get out to move my car every two hours or I’ll get a ticket.

I remember reading an article about software developers can find jobs working from their homes. Maybe I need to look into getting a job with more flexible commuting options.

Ok. It’s a start.

Enjoy my work 1 year ago

I had to work on a Saturday to make up for a day I missed earlier. Being in the office when nobody else’s around made me realize that I actually like the work I do. It’s just that on Mondays thru Fridays, it’s too noisy too busy in the area that I cannot really focus.

intention 1 year ago

I would really like to work in a place where my best skills are put into good use, where I would be truly appreciated.

insight 1 year ago

What I like to do is to work in an environment where people are focused on their own development and goals, instead of pulling others down to make themselves look good.

For some reason, I haven’t been very lucky in career. I’ve always had a job, but I have always encountered predators, sharks instead of true professionals.

This is what I like to change about my career.

Need to get a better job 1 year ago

I have an ok job for now, but it’s stagnant and working there 40 hours a week is tough. I’m a night owl, but the group is all early birds who shows up at 5, 6 am in the morning and leaves around 2-3 pm in the afternoon. People see me as a slacker. They don’t see it that I stay till 6-7pm in the evening. They only see that I show up in the morning late.

To make things tougher, this is a group of mostly extroverts who want me change me into somebody that’s upbeat, cheerful all the time, when in fact, I am really a quiet, reflective, sensitive person. I am constantly being scrutinized on things like if I were smiling, if I appeared to be attentive, if I eat lunches or do pot lucks with them.

Oh, and the work itself is totally boring. There’s no other geeks around for me to talk to, to ask questions and collaborate with. Most of the programmers have not a whole lot to do all the time and it was ok.

To top it off, commuting is hell. It takes over an hour to get to work and I must move my car every two hours or I’ll get a ticket.

I need to get myself a better job, one where people are focused on doing their work instead of picking on my smiling and not smiling. I need to work with other geeks who I can ask questions and collaborate with on technical issues. And the commute takes less than 45 minutes.

Wish me luck.
