!0 kilos off!! 14 months ago

I know I have been off the page for a while, and decided it was time to get back to 43Things, if only to proclaim my milestones!! :D

First things first – 10 kilos off!! Ok, ok – it was 9 but what’s a kilo, give or take?? :D I see the significant difference especially when I check out pictures from 6 months back. And the weight seems to stay off as well – haven’t been able to run for the last 3 weeks, and despite being home for the hols, don’t seem to have gained any weight!
I feel fitter and can now run 10km without collapsing (unlike when I first started out – 2 mins of mild jogging and I’d be wheezing). I have more energy and even my skin was showing the benefits (glowing, zit-free, etc)! I can’t wait to be running on a regular basis again! (Once I’m done with my break ;D)

But in connection with loving our bodies no matter how we measure, check out this winning entry for the “Love Your Body” Campaign by the NOW foundation :)

Update 19 months ago

So, I have got my new running shoes, and they are confy as hell! The weighted gloves are great too, and help me be more aware of my movement, I feel.
I checked my weight yesterday – and I’m at a 73 kilos right now. I think I was around 78 kilos when I first came here (about 3 months ago, 1 month since I started this work-out regimen), so it’s all good.
I’m really interested in parkour too, and am looking at websites by other enthusiasts on how to build core strength, as well as training. Hopefully, I can start doing a few tricks in another 2 months!
Anyone in Mumbai interested in getting a group together to train? Leave me a comment on here!

dumbells! 19 months ago

Ouch, my arms are sore with the weight training regime i just started… still getting the hang of it, but still feels good to feel the burn as they say :)

Keeping with the program.. 19 months ago

I have started the whole 6 meals a day program to augment my exercise routine. It’s only been a week or less since I started on it, but it feels better for me physically. I’m not drowsy after lunch and I feel a lot more energetic thus far.

As for the early morning workout, it looks like this right now:
  • 5:45am – get up, dress, brush teeth, drink 500ml water (at least), out the door by 6:05-6:10
  • 6:15 – My uncle drops me off at the local joggers’ park; stretch for 10 minutes, do 2 laps of the 1.5km track (brisk walking)
  • 6:55-7am – off the track and to the nearby park to stretch some more, do a few karate kicks, back-bends; do 1 lap running at a moderate pace, and then a short sprint at full speed (roughly equaly to a quarter of the close-to-1km track), before meeting my uncle and drinking(at least) 500ml water. Once done, walk back home (another 1.5km).
  • 7:30-7:45am – up 8 flights of stairs, do basic weight training on alternate days (T,Th,S) with dumbbells (about 2.5kg each); focus on arms and shoulders, as well as squats (holding dumbbells).

Think this is pretty good thus far. I haven’t checked my weight or measured myself recently, but I feel my clothes are a lil looser now, so things are on track.
I want to build up to being able to run the main track without feeling oxygen depleted. When I had first started out, I would quit after 1/3 of the way – as my 3rd lap, and jus walk the rest.

Since I want to be able to run a marathon in about 7 months time, anyone with ideas on what I should be doing and what to add to the regimen? My main focus is being healthy and keeping diabetes & heart disease at bay, and doing it frugally. I want to up my metabolism and increase my stamina, but want to do it at a measured pace. Also, I hate routine and need ideas on keeping things fresh. Any suggestions will be highly appreciated! :)

3 weeks in... 19 months ago

I have decided to stick with a regular rest day, which will be Sunday. I missed out on this Monday, but am back on track – and this time, I did two runs around this smaller track close to our jogger’s park! Not a bad way to continue… I haven’t weighed myself lately but I still think it’s too early to expect weight loss; my body needs to metabolize on a regular basis first.

It’s all good though, and I love getting things done early since my sleep schedule has righted itself already :)

5 days! 20 months ago

Yep, been running 5 days straight now – I don’t want to take a day off coz I worry I’ll quit!! :D
But it’s good – I feel a good difference already! This is having a regulating effect on my sleep schedule and that can’t be too bad.

Finally! 20 months ago

We’re going running tomorrow morning!

EDIT: Went running at 6:30am, did 3 laps of the local joggers’ park and walked home – took us about an hour altogether. Not bad – I made sure to stretch and my muscles aren’t sore. Looking forward to doing this everyday!! :)

So.... 20 months ago

My uncle is a big exercise nut and wakes up at 5:30 each morning to take a walk and then play tennis. I think I’m going to start joining him for the walk, and then slowly build up to working out at the gym in school. Should be a good way to start again….

8 flights of stairs twice a day... 22 months ago

...should be a workout in its own right, no? :D
And once my budget and savings kick in fully, I need to start a membership at a local gym. I’m going to start looking if any one of those might need a salsa instructor or assistant…

so... 2 years ago

...it’s dec 1st already, but I think I lost the pounds I gained. Woot – as for dropping 8 more kilos in 20 dys… not happening :D
I’m going to remove the date deadline on this and set for March. I want to be healthy, not sick – so I have to do this at my own pace…
